Whangamata lies in the foothills of the Coromandel Ranges where early settlers once successfully dug for gold and logged giant Kauri trees. We are surrounded by natural beauty. The harbour provides safe anchorage and a place for a variety of water sport while the sandy beaches are ideal for swimming. When the surf is up there are no better waves in New Zealand. Behind the town are the hills covered in native bush with some wonderful walking tracks. Mountain biking is a popular activity in the pine forests. We are also within an hours drive from many of the Peninsula's popular spots such as Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove and the Karagahake Gorge. Things to do....
